Getting around Nicaragua
There are many ways of getting around Nicaragua. Many people
actually prefer to rent a car and explore Nicaragua themselves. If
you choose this mean of transport, that you should know that you
will have the freedom to travel at your own pace and make your own
decisions regarding which attractions you’d like to see and where
you’d like to spend the night. There’s no rush, no tour group to get
on your nerves and annoying organizers telling you what you can and
cannot do. Some would consider it the ultimate way to explore a
country.
What you should know if you want to rent a car is that Nicaragua has
many great car hire agencies that offer high quality vehicles at
bargain prices. Some would claim that their level of service is
legendary and go out of their way to make sure that you enjoy doing
business with them. And, no matter what your requirements are, you
can be sure that they will have something to cater to your needs.
You can enjoy the luxury of a sedan, the convenience of a compact
car, the capacity of a station wagon or mini-bus or the rugged
durability of a four-wheel drive or pick-up – you can hire them all
in Nicaragua. Car hire in Nicaragua is so popular that dealers often
have specials during the year. Make sure that you shop around to get
the best bargain before starting your adventure in Nicaragua.
However, you have to realize that navigating a country on your own
does not guarantee a smooth ride. You may get lost, have a breakdown
or travel to an attraction only to find out that it is off limits.
You may run into unexpected trouble, get stuck in marshy bogs or end
up spending the night in a rural hut while you wait for help to
arrive. However to true explorers, this is all part of an
unforgettable adventure.
On the other hand, if you prefer other means of transport, here are
some other suggestions that you can use when you want to visit
Nicaragua:
By Plane
You can always travel by plane. Nicaragua’s international airport,
Sandino Airport, is situated in Managua about 8 miles from the city
and has very good bus and taxi services. Latin American, European
and North American Airlines offer daily flights to and from Managua.
NICA Airlines, Nicaragua’s national airline has daily flights to and
from Miami International Airport.
You should also know that La Costena is Nicaragua’s major domestic
airline and has many flights to isolated regions such as the Corn
Islands and Bluefields on the Caribbean Coast. Atlantic Airlines is
the second biggest domestic carrier with less flights but more
comfortable planes and a little more expensive fares.
