Inshore Fishing in Nicaragua

Fishing along the coasts of Nicaragua

How do you like the sound of waters swarming, jam-packed with fish of so many varieties to cause any angler’s eyes glitter with satisfaction? These are not words describing a fisherman’s outlandish, only dreamed-of paradise, but merely the words fit to depict the tropical paradise of inshore Pacific waters along the coast of Nicaragua.

\The advantage of those going to fish inshore in Nicaragua is that this country’s waters and their richness are not very known to the regular angler. The phenomenon takes place due to the fact that Nicaragua itself – not just its waters – are still widely unexplored, a fact which creates unique opportunities for the anglers who are lucky to have Nicaraguan fishing trips just for themselves.

Since Nicaraguan inshore fishing is not so popular, it also means that the visitor who wants to try his fishing skills here will benefit from waters which are not crowded with eager anglers, but instead crowded with fish.

The Pacific waters along the Nicaraguan coast are the best shelter of inshore fishing opportunities. Fish such as bonito, snook, roosterfish, snapper, sierra mackerel form the common population of these areas. Occasionally, even the tropical dorado and sailfish can be seen here.

A more precise location of these dreamwaters teeming with inshore fishing opportunities is the San Juan del Sur area. The town and the bay within which it is enclosed are situated on the Nicaragua’s Pacific shoreline, in the southern parts of the country, at about two hour car drive south of the capital of the country.

Renowned for its great tides, just fit for guaranteed good surfing, renowned for its tranquility and scenic landscapes where sandy beaches and palm trees combine to generate the perfectly relaxing, away-from-the-rest-of-the-world vacations, the San Juan del Sur area is just starting to create a name out of both inshore and offshore swarming fish populations.

At its origins, truth be said, San Juan del Sur was just a tiny fishing village, seemingly insignificant since its inhabitants would lead only the quiet life so specific to areas where people live according to the rules of the waters, i.e. eating and trading fish and other kind of seafood.

Now that not only San Juan del Sur the village, but the whole region surrounding it as well are turning into popular must-see and, subsequently, must-fish-in areas, the small village has developed and the quiet life of its residents has become just a tinge more vibrant. Do not worry: you will have just the adequate conditions for successful, abundant fishing expeditions.
