Nicaragua Offshore
Fishing
The Right Place to
Fish
From the years 1950 till 1976 San Juan River (Rio San Juan) was
known as one of the best Tarpon fishing destination in the world as
there were three fishing camp on the river and many angling
celebrities used to come here. Unfortunately, Civil war started in
Nicaragua and all sport fishing activities stopped. After peace
being restored, more exactly for 12 years now, the area is very
peaceful, perfect for tourism and fishing.
If you want to fish in Nicaragua, you've come to the right place.
There is a national company, Fishing Nicaragua, which offers the
first and most experienced sport fishing fleet in the waters of
Nicaragua. Fishing Nicaragua aboard their fleet will give you the
opportunity to run offshore in search of monster fish like marlin,
as well as the tackle busting roosterfish, inshore. You can even
battle tarpon, snook, guapote (rainbow bass) and machacas in Lake
Nicaragua and on the Rio San Juan, year round.
The Corn Islands and Nicaraguan Atlantic Coast offer excellent
opportunities for sport fishing. The lagoons and rivers of the coast
are abundant with tarpon and snoop and the blue waters of the
Caribbean Corn Islands are host to all pelagic species including
sailfish, marlin, tuna and dolphin. In addition to casting for
Kingfish, Amber Jack, Red Snapper and Barracuda off the Corn
Islands; bone fishing in the flats around Little Corn Island is
definitely among the best in the world. The fishing here remains
extraordinary!
You can fish with spear, spear gun, or even with
your hands. Lobsters are everywhere! And, within a couple of
kilometers of shore, you will find large schools of king fish,
Dolphin, Amber jack, Snapper and barracuda. Though the sport fish
are prolific, sport fishing charters are few and far between on the
Atlantic Coast. Local panga fishermen can often be hired to take
visitors out to fish with hand lines. This country's beautiful
landscape made up of rivers, lakes, volcanoes, and tropical forest
create an idealistic backdrop for all anglers. Nicaragua has not
been fished recreationally until recently, which guarantees its lack
of sport fishing pressure.
Offshore you will encounter black blue, and striped marlin,
sailfish, yellow fin tuna, wahoo, and Dorado. The prime months out
of San Juan del Sur are from May through October. The fishing season
is longer out of the Marina Puesta Del Sol Resort, in the north. The
boats will quickly get you offshore and back. Offshore fishing
consists of running 30 plus miles to get to the humps and the drop.
There can also be some practice of catch and release with all
billfish and roosterfish!
