Restaurants in Nicaragua
Satisfy your Appetite
No
matter where you go in Nicaragua, you will need to eat. Nicaragua
has a fine number of restaurants and cafes where you can satisfy
your appetite. Some restaurants in Nicaragua feature spectacular
views. Other Nicaraguan restaurants focus on local cuisine.
There is something for everyone and you will usually be able to find
a food that suits your specific eating habits. Nicaraguan gastronomy
is somewhat different from most parts of the world, but it is all
the more wonderful for it. We have provided a Nicaragua restaurant
Guide below to help get you started.
National dish – Nacatamales
Nacatamales is the most typical Nicaraguan food. It is smashed corn
and potatoes wrapped in a banana leaf along with some pork meat,
little fresh tomato and some garlic & salt. The leaf is tightly
wrapped and tied with a string and the whole thing is boiled in
water. It is tasty when fresh, very cheap and has lots of oil in it.
Bridgette's: Inexpensive Lobster
Candle light dining is your only option on Little Corn due to the
fact that there simply is no electricity... unless you dine in the
more upscale restaurants/hotels that have generator produced
electricity. If you don't mind candles only, Bridgette cooks up a
mean lobster, fish and fried chicken. She'll also cook up any fish
you catch for free as long as you share the rest with her guests.
Unis and Joanna keep the beers coming and the candles burning. They
close when you leave or they run out of whatever your poison is.
The chickenlady: Good and cheap local
food!
This is an amazing place to have dinner. While you sit down on the
sidewalk you pick the thing you want: chicken or beef, order a
freshly made lemonade and watch your meat grilled on the barbecue.
This is not a place tourists often go to. It probably doesn't look
very reliable but trust me this is the way locals go out for dinner.
It's good and cheap and a unique experience. And we didn't got sick
from it at all!
